Vulnerable Sector Check

A Canadian term. A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a police information check used when a position is one of trust or authority over children or vulnerable persons.

In Australia, do not write VSC as the local requirement. Youth-facing roles usually need a state or territory Working with Children Check — WWCC in New South Wales, Blue Card in Queensland, Working with Children Check in Victoria, and equivalents elsewhere. Those checks are not automatically portable across borders. A national police check is a different document.

If a Canadian volunteer policy says “VSC required,” map it to the Working with Children Check that applies in that state or territory for that role.
