Night shift

A night shift is a work period scheduled during overnight hours.

UK readers use the term exactly this way, but the local frame matters. Night work can carry specific Working Time rules as well as any contract or collective-agreement premium. The scheduling question is not just coverage; it is also rest, fatigue, and whether the rota leaves enough recovery time around nights.

Also called: graveyard shift (US, colloquial). Related: Rota, Clopening, Overtime.
