Chiefly a UK term. A rota is a schedule showing which team members are working which shifts, on which days, in which roles.

In Australia the standard workplace word is roster. A UK “Saturday rota” is an Australian “Saturday roster”: the published plan of who is working, when, and in which role. Hours, penalty rates, and notice sit under the Fair Work Act and the relevant modern award or enterprise agreement, not under UK working-time language.

If you are reading UK material and see rota, treat it as roster. Keep using roster in Australian copy.

Local equivalent: roster.
