Chiefly a UK term. A rota is a schedule showing which team members are working which shifts, on which days, in which roles.

In Canada the everyday words are schedule and roster. A UK manager talking about “next week’s rota” means the same published plan a Canadian coordinator would call the schedule. The object is identical: names, times, roles, and enough lead time that people can arrange the rest of their week around it.

Employment-standards rules that sit around that plan — hours of work, overtime, public holidays — are provincial or, for federally regulated workplaces, sit under the Canada Labour Code. The UK word does not change which Canadian rules apply.

Local equivalent: roster.
