DBS check
Chiefly a UK term. A DBS check is a criminal-record check for England and Wales. In Canada the usual terms are police record check and, where the role qualifies, a Vulnerable Sector Check.

In Canada, do not write DBS. The usual terms are police record check and, where the position is one of trust or authority over children or vulnerable persons, a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). Those checks are conducted by the local police service where the applicant lives. There is no single national “background check” product, and Ontario does not impose a statutory duty on charities to run VSCs — though they remain common and are often an insurer condition.
A UK page that says “all volunteers need DBS” is describing a different legal scheme. Map it to the Canadian check that actually applies to the role.
