National Minimum Wage
Chiefly a UK term, though Australia uses the same words for a different scheme. In Canada there is no single national minimum wage for most workplaces; rates are provincial or, for federally regulated workplaces, sit under the Canada Labour Code.

In Canada, do not write National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage as the local rule. Most workplaces follow a provincial or territorial minimum wage. Ontario’s general minimum wage is C$17.60 an hour to 30 September 2026 and C$17.95 an hour from 1 October 2026 — labelled Ontario, not national. Federally regulated industries (banks, telecom, airlines, interprovincial transport, and the other listed federal workplaces) sit under the Canada Labour Code, not the provincial employment standards act.
