TOIL

Chiefly a UK and Australian term. TOIL, short for time off in lieu, is paid time off given instead of extra pay for extra hours already worked.

In Canada the nearer labels are lieu time or banked time. Whether extra hours are paid as overtime or taken later as time off is a provincial employment-standards question, or a Canada Labour Code question for federally regulated workplaces, plus whatever the contract or policy allows. Do not assume a UK TOIL policy maps onto Ontario, or any other province, without checking that statute.
