How signup works in each app
Shifts after an onboarding sequence
Volunteers apply through a form, move through a guided onboarding sequence with waivers and checks, then reserve shifts from a branded recruitment page.
A private team space with shift signup and chats
Members join your workspace once, fill in their own profile, then browse and claim what fits their skills and schedule, with a chat channel attached to every task.
What Vome is better at
If your workflow depends on the things below, Vome is the right pick. It's the most feature-complete tool in this category, and this list is longer than most.
Screening and credentialing
Onboarding sequences combining forms, fillable PDFs, e-signatures, training modules and checklists, with Sterling Volunteers and Verified First background checks triggered in-flow, SCORM e-learning, and auto-expiring certification renewals. Zelos has none of this and doesn't attempt it.
Attendance capture at the door
QR scan, tap-to-check-in, on-site kiosks, GPS proximity validation, and fully automatic check-in and check-out. Zelos calculates hours from the scheduled shift, not from an arrival, so if you need attendance integrity Vome is considerably stronger.
Compliance and enterprise security
HIPAA, SOC 2, PIPEDA, CCPA and PCI DSS, with SAML and Azure SSO, granular admin roles and multi-site segmentation. Zelos is GDPR-compliant by default but carries none of the other certifications.
Integrations that reach your stack
A native Salesforce package with two-way sync, Zapier, Microsoft Power Automate, Google Sheets two-way sync, and Double the Donation matching gifts, plus REST API and webhooks. Zelos exports CSV on every plan and offers an API on Enterprise only.
If these bullet points are non-negotiable, you're a Vome customer.
What Zelos is sharper at
If you don't need the screening layer, Zelos is a better fit.
Record anything, group by it, from the free plan
Say you need to know who's comfortable handling large dogs, who holds a driving licence, or who speaks Portuguese. In Zelos each is a custom profile field the member fills in themselves, and you group and target shifts on it, free, on any plan, with no limit on how many you add. Vome's own documentation states that custom fields can only be created, mapped and imported on Enterprise or Ultimate. On Pro your only option is a profile tag applied by hand, and answers to custom form questions don't reach the profile at all without the mapping feature.
Never per coordinator
Zelos gives you unlimited admins on every plan, including free. Vome Pro charges $35 for every activated admin seat, and the tiers above it carry three- and five-seat minimums. Every person who needs to post a shift is a line on the invoice.
A free plan that schedules
The Zelos free plan covers unlimited members, unlimited admins, full task and shift signup, built-in chat, push notifications and CSV export, permanently and without a card. Vome has a free Recruit tier, but it handles application forms and onboarding only. Scheduling begins on Pro, at a paid seat.
Live in five minutes, no demo
Sign up and post your first shift the same afternoon. Vome leads with a demo booking and unlocks onboarding sessions on upgrade, which is valuable if you want the walkthrough and an obstacle if you don't.
If you're drawn to this kind of simplicity, you should spin up a free project in Zelos right away.
per month
Five coordinators, same scheduling work. Vome Pro bills you $175 a month. Zelos bills you $99, however many you have.
What you'll actually pay
Vome charges per admin seat rather than per volunteer, and the tier you need depends less on headcount than on what you need to record about your volunteers (USD, annual billing).
| Zelos | Zelos Pro | Vome Pro | Vome Enterprise* | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 coordinator | Free | $99/mo | $35/mo | Not available |
| 3 coordinators | Free | $99/mo | $105/mo | $165/mo |
| 5 coordinators | Free | $99/mo | $175/mo | $275/mo |
| Custom profile fields | Unlimited | Unlimited | Tags only | Unlimited |
| Form answers land on profile | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
* Vome pricing from vomevolunteer.com/plans, August 2026, USD with annual billing: Pro $35 per admin seat per month, Enterprise $55 with a three-seat minimum, Ultimate $65 with a five-seat minimum. Unlimited volunteers on every plan. Vome's support documentation states that custom fields can only be created, mapped and imported on Enterprise or Ultimate, and that Pro offers profile tags as its only way to customise the database. Their free Recruit tier isn't in this comparison. It has no shift management.
For one coordinator recording standard details, Vome Pro is cheaper than Zelos Pro. What you need to record about people decides the rest. Nonprofits and education teams get additional discounts on Zelos Pro and Enterprise.

Teams that pick Zelos over Vome
Nonprofits where several people coordinate
Per-seat pricing turns every extra coordinator into a budget conversation, and the tiers with custom fields and awards carry three- and five-seat minimums. Zelos gives every coordinator admin access on the free plan.
Learn more →Churches running weekly rotas
Sunday service, coffee, kids' ministry and the food bank each have their own lead, and each lead needs to post their own shifts. Five ministry leads on Vome Pro is $175 a month. On Zelos it's nothing.
Learn more →Sports clubs and leagues
A parent committee is a lot of coordinators and no budget. Every team manager can post match-day shifts without adding a seat, and parents claim from their phones.
Learn more →Grassroots and mutual aid groups
No budget line, no procurement, and organising shared across whoever is available that week. Zelos is free for unlimited people and unlimited organisers, with nothing to approve.
Learn more →Event staffing and festival crews
Event crews mix volunteers with paid staff and contractors, assemble in weeks, and need dispatch rather than screening sequences. Zelos treats everyone as a member who claims work, paid or not.
Learn more →Contractor pools and gig dispatch
Contractors are paid for the work and don't need onboarding sequences or background checks. Post the job, let the right people claim it, coordinate in the task chat.
